great depression chic

i follow some fashion blogs for fun and there’s been some interesting buzz about the upcoming jcrew fall collection. while i would never wear anything remotely like how the outfits are styled, something about the photos from their preview shoot appeal to my weird period sensibilities. i guess i like the charming homeless waif look?

i didn’t get a chance to see it while in theatres but i’m starting to see commercials lately for the dvd release — so excited! i absolutely flove hayao miyazaki. back when i was a kiddo, i had totoro and kiki’s delivery service back to back on a tattered vhs tape that i would watch over and over and over again. last christmas i ended up having a mini netflix/streaming marathon last christmas to catch the films i hadn’t yet seen from the miyazaki oeuvre and it really hit the spot :). watching with english dubs kind of take you out of it though — i definitely prefer watching in japanese with subtitles…i wish i had retained more than 5 words from japanese class in high school. oh well!
